Marchand: “Doug Ford has been letting us breathe toxic air”

August 11, 2026

HAMILTON — Greens’ candidate for Hamilton East–Stoney Creek Pascale Marchand released the following statement responding to the results of the “What’s the Grime?” study.

“Hamiltonians have been demanding answers for decades and now we know: the black soot covering our homes, pets and children is not simply “road dust,” but toxic chemicals from industrial coal combustion.

We’ve all suspected this for years, but we’re only now getting confirmation because the provincial government has refused to take action to keep Hamiltonians safe.

The Ford government can no longer ignore this health hazard facing our community. It’s time for it to step up, hold the emitters responsible and clean up Hamilton’s air so that we can all breathe easy.

I’m also calling on this government to fund further research so we can fully understand the health impacts of these chemicals on our community, implement a plan to stop it at the source and strengthen legislation to hold polluters accountable and keep our air clean.

Clean air should not be a privilege that is only afforded to some of us. The hardworking people of Hamilton and Stoney Creek deserve a government that will put people over profits to keep them safe.”
