We’re looking for a motivated person to become the Executive Director of the Green Party of Ontario. You will be responsible for helping setting strategic direction of the party with the GPO Leader and Provincial Executive, as well as executing annual plans and meeting benchmarks, budgeting, preparations for elections and by-elections, staff management, fundraising and communications. Hours of work will vary and may include long hours from time to time, as well as some evenings & weekends.


  • Establish strategic direction with the Leader and Provincial Executive
    • Create Annual Plans and budgets in consultation with the Provincial Executive
    • Execute prioritized plans to meet objectives of the GPO as set out in the Annual Plan
    • Establish issue campaigns to mobilize and engage members and recruit new supporters
    • Prepare for elections and by-elections, identifying opportunities in local ridings to expand accessible voter pool
  • Oversee operations
    • Develop information technology assets including database and website
    • Manage staff and contractors
      • Establish Human Resources policies for staff and volunteers
      • Determine staff and volunteer levels and structure
      • Set salary levels and other terms of employment
      • Recruit, hire and supervise staff, and provide regular performance reviews
      • Ensure staff, contractors and volunteers work together to further the goals of the GPO and in accordance with the law, the GPO’s Constitution and the GPO’s Code of Conduct
    • Oversee organizational development, including CAs, membership, and volunteers
    • Ensure effective party administration
    • Oversee the operation of the GPO’s headquarters in Toronto and such other offices as the GPO may establish
  • Liaise and work with:
    • Provincial Executive committees, Units, Party membership, federal and provincial Green parties, and Constituency Associations (CAs)
    • The offices of Green Party Members of Provincial Parliament (Queen’s Park and Constituency locations), as well as being responsible for developing and maintaining good relations and positive communications with the Chief of Staff to the leader
  • Manage communications
    • Execute strategic communications plans including:
      • Media relations
      • Issue and action campaigns
      • Social media
      • Email
      • Web content
  • Manage fundraising, finance and accounting
    • Create annual fundraising plan
    • Meet fundraising goals as set out in the GPO Annual Plan
    • Ensure that the GPO complies with the Ontario Elections Act and other applicable statutes, including filing required reports to Elections Ontario, and the issuance of official tax receipts
    • Ensure that all revenues and expenses are accounted for in accordance with generally accepted principles and practices and the direction of the GPO Chief Financial Officer
  • Contribute to GPO Governance
    • Contribute as a non-voting member of the Provincial Executive in making responsible decisions regarding the governance of the Party.
    • Prepare a monthly report for the Provincial Executive detailing the various operations of the Party and progress in achieving the annual plan.
    • Ensure all GPO activities uphold the GPO constitution

The Executive Director is responsible to the Provincial Executive, and reports to the President.


  • Previous senior management experience managing organizations, especially in non-profits or politics
  • Solid, hands-on, budget and P&L management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting
  • Strong organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation
  • Knowledge of and experience with fundraising strategies and donor relations
  • Proven ability to build volunteer teams, collaborate with and motivate volunteers
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to interface and engage diverse volunteer and donor groups
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff


  • Political, campaign and/or legislative experience
  • Creativity in developing new and unique ways to improve operations of the organization and to create new opportunities.
  • French or other languages
  • Transparent and high integrity leadership
  • Knowledge of Elections Ontario rules and procedures
