Residents share concerns about development in packed town hall
July 15, 2026
GRAVENHURST — Almost 200 people joined Schreiner and Richter to share their concerns about the proposed Cliff Bay development conditional on a Ford government MZO.
“The people of Muskoka care about safeguarding the health of Lake Muskoka and mitigating flood risk in our community,” said Richter.
“We must stand up for local decision-making. And we must stand up for Muskoka’s lakes and rivers so we can protect the species that rely on them, and so that we can enjoy the places that make Muskoka special now and in the future.”
Attendees expressed frustration that the Ford government is allowing a corporate developer to bypass local decision-making and put nature at risk to build a mega resort.
“The Ford government has a pattern of overriding local decision-making to line the pockets of the rich and powerful,” said Schreiner.
“Parry Sound–Muskoka residents need affordable homes, investments in healthcare and hospitals and action to lower the cost of living. But the Ford government cares more about helping rich developers than local residents.”
“Greens will keep fighting to defend local democracy and protect the places from reckless development that line the pockets of big corporations at our expense.”
Schreiner was in the Muskoka region with Richter to learn more about the Ford government’s proposed Cliff Bay MZO, visit the site of the proposed development and hear from Muskoka residents.
