Ontarians will foot the bill for Ford’s costly energy plan
June 23, 2026
GUELPH — Mike Schreiner responds to news that Ontario’s proposed nuclear plants could cost up to $456 more per year for electricity for Ontarians.
“The Ford government is digging their heels into high-cost, slow-to-build new nuclear plants while everyday people foot the bill.
Last year, electricity prices shot up 29 per cent because of Doug Ford’s bad energy policies. Now, prices are set to climb up to another $456 per year because of this government’s obsession with new nuclear builds.
Experts have been clear: the cheapest, fastest way to expand the grid and lower energy bills is to invest in Ontario-made wind, solar and energy storage solutions. In fact, this latest study shows that renewables would be less than half the cost of these new nuclear plants.
We could lower our energy bills and create good, generational jobs right now, using Ontario steel to build locally produced low-cost renewable energy for projects like wind, solar and energy storage.
Doug Ford’s anything-but-renewables policy is costing Ontarians and setting our province up to get left behind.”
