Ford should follow feds’ lead on EV rebates

MARKDALE — Ontario Greens Leader and MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner issued the following statement in response to federal EV rebate announcement:

“Doug Ford has to do his part to save Ontario’s auto sector.

The federal government is introducing  rebates for Canadians who buy or lease EVs and hybrids because it knows that broader EV uptake is key to growing Canada’s auto sector and defending good paying jobs.

This is exactly the kind of action Greens have been urging the Ford government to take for years.

If we want to protect Ontario workers and our auto industry while making life more affordable, EVs have to be affordable for everyday Ontarians.

Greens are calling on the Ford government to match federal EV and hybrid rebates to protect Ontario’s auto sector and the workers, families and communities that depend on it.

Now is the time for bold, coordinated action from all levels of government.”
