Manufacturing downturn is a punch in the gut to workers

QUEEN'S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to the FAO’s Economic Monitor that showed manufacturing jobs are at their lowest point since 1976.

“This is a punch in the gut to the workers, families and communities that are hurting as a result of these job losses.

The Ford government has failed to implement a jobs plan that addresses the reality of the challenges our manufacturing sector is facing.

Ontario Greens have long called on the Ford government to introduce a plan to create jobs now by investing in EVs and made-in-Ontario renewable energy. But the Ford government only came to the table with half a plan. They’ve failed to create EV demand in the province and cancelled the programs that would make EVs actually affordable to buy.

The Ford government is asleep at the wheel and the people of Ontario are suffering because of it.”
