We need a plan for affordable transit, not more sprawl

GUELPH — Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to the release of the Transit Over Traffic report:

“Doug Ford’s highway fantasies are built to benefit wealthy developers, not everyday Ontarians. 

This report confirms that investing in public transit is cheaper and more effective than Ford’s costly, super-sprawl highways, which will only make congestion and pollution worse. 

Ontario is in the midst of an affordability crisis that the Ford government has made worse. Now more than ever, we need affordable transit options that get people where they need to go, without paving over the nature that protects us and the farmland that feeds us.

Instead of giving us more affordable ways to get around, Doug Ford is committing to lining the pockets of land speculators. 

If the Premier was serious about tackling congestion and making life more affordable, he’d expand access to public transit and give people more affordable choices to make their commute easier.”
