Schreiner: Ford's solution to gridlock? More cars.

TORONTO — Ontario Greens leader Mike Schreiner released the following statement following Premier Ford’s Highway 413 press conference this morning:

“Once again the Premier is using tariff talk to justify wasting billions of taxpayer dollars on a highway that won’t solve gridlock, while failing to provide any clear timeline or budget for this reckless and costly plan.

This ill-advised project will only fuel more sprawl and pollution, while destroying the wetlands that protect us from flooding and the farmland that feeds us.

Building more highways won’t solve gridlock – it will make it worse by putting more cars on the road. 

If the Premier were serious about tackling congestion, he’d expand access to public transit and stop saying no to building homes people can afford in communities close to where they work and spend time with their families. 

It’s time for Doug Ford to finally abandon Highway 413 and invest in solutions that will actually reduce gridlock while safeguarding the nature that protects us and the farmland that feeds us.”
