Doug Ford is putting profits over people with pipeline study

QUEEN'S PARK — Mike Schreiner issued the following statement in response to the Ford government’s announcement launching a feasibility study to build a pipeline:

“Doug Ford’s pipeline pipe-dream isn’t about energy security. It’s a massive giveaway to oil and gas companies and a dangerous step backwards for Ontario.

If this project ever even gets approved, it will be ten years before Ontarians see any benefits.

We’re in a jobs crisis right now. We could be creating jobs right now, using Ontario steel to build made-in-Ontario, low-cost renewable energy.

We know that the cheapest, cleanest, fastest way to scale up our energy capacity is to invest in low-cost renewables.

But Doug Ford just keeps saying NO to jobs, and NO to taking Ontario’s piece of the $2.2 trillion global green economy.

Instead of cashing in, Ford is dragging us backwards.

This government is using a time of economic uncertainty to promote insider interests instead of taking real action to protect our economy and the people of Ontario—keeping us hooked on expensive oil and gas for decades to come. 

The Ontario Greens will keep fighting for an affordable, prosperous future that puts people before profits.”
