Schreiner calls out Ford government’s radio silence at COP26

November 18, 2021

Despite Environment Minister Piccini’s recent attendance at COP26, it’s been complete radio silence from the government on climate action.

QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner rose in the House today to question the government’s inaction on addressing the climate crisis and radio silence at COP26:

“Under this PC government, climate pollution in Ontario is going up, not down.

Ontario desperately needs a real plan for real action on the climate crisis.

But despite Minister Piccini’s recent attendance at COP26, it’s been complete radio silence from the government on climate action.

If this government had any credibility on climate change, they’d cancel plans for:

  • Highway 413, which will generate 17.4 megatonnes of climate pollution by 2050
  • Holland Marsh Highway (Bradford Bypass), which will pump 87 million kilogrammes of climate pollution into the air each year
  • Ramping up gas plants, which will increase climate pollution by 300%

But the Premier is doubling down on his destructive highway projects that will sabotage Ontario’s ability to crush climate pollution.

Ontario Greens are ready to work with all parties to pull the Premier’s head out of the concrete and cancel these reckless plans that will be a climate disaster.”
