Mark Bekkering

Mark, his wife Adele, and their three children have proudly called Scarborough Southwest home for over 25 years. A committed leader with over 30 years of public service, Mark brings a wealth of experience in policy development and program management. He spent much of his career with the City of Hamilton and the City of Toronto, where he led transformative initiatives in the Environment & Climate Change Division. Notable projects under Mark’s leadership include TransformTO, the Home Energy Loan Program, and PollinateTO, all of which aimed to address climate change in balance with economic & social needs.

Mark’s work has earned both national and international recognition. He holds a graduate degree in Geography from Queen’s University and completed a two-year international program in Environment and Development with funding from the Rockefeller Foundation.

Frustrated by the failure of past and current governments to address critical issues, such as, housing affordability, homelessness, climate change, and traffic congestion, Mark in 2024 joined the Green Party of Ontario. He believes Ontario needs a new approach-one that prioritizes a sustainable future for all Ontarians, economically, socially, and environmentally.
