Ontario Line budget ballooning by billions, delayed by a decade

QUEEN'S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to news that the projected cost to build the Ontario Line subway has increased to $34 billion.

“This government has a long list of transit failures. Just like with the Eglinton Crosstown, the Ontario Line timeline just keeps getting pushed while costs skyrocket.

Estimated construction costs have more than tripled since the Ford government’s initial announcement. When will the Ford government take accountability for its gross mismanagement of transit projects and the tax dollars that fund them?

The Premier needs to step up with a credible plan to deliver major transit projects on time and on budget, including by stepping up oversight of Metrolinx and its million-dollar executives.”
