Aislinn Clancy tables bill to keep kids safe online

June 2, 2026

QUEEN'S PARK — Aislinn Clancy will introduce legislation today that would, if passed, protect children from online harms by regulating AI and social media use.

“As a former school social worker, I’ve become increasingly concerned about the harmful effects of social media and AI on our kids,” said Clancy.

“The negative impacts on student mental health and learning outcomes are well-documented and becoming more apparent as technology evolves. We all share the responsibility to keep our kids safe from harm–both in the real world and online.”

If passed, the Keeping Our Kids Safe Online Act would establish a working group of parents, youth, education workers, school board members and social media experts to develop recommendations for the Ministry of Education on:

  • A plan to ban social media and AI chat bots in schools;
  • A school curriculum on digital citizenship, online safety and AI literacy;
  • Measures to hold technology and social media companies accountable for harms to children, and;
  • Funding and training for children’s mental health organizations to address technology impacts on kids.

“Our kids are vulnerable to massive technology and social media companies that seek to profit off of our kids’ attention. We have a responsibility to work together to protect them,” said Clancy.

Passing this bill is an opportunity for the Ford government to take real action to guide our kids through this new age of technology.”
