Schreiner and Clancy hear from Ottawa residents at town hall

OTTAWA — Mike Schreiner and Aislinn Clancy heard from residents on their climate concerns at a town hall organized by Ottawa-area Greens
“Greens are fighting to keep billionaires and big corporations out of politics so we can make decisions that work for everyday people and the places we love,” said Schreiner.
Attendees expressed concerns about the recent uptick in proposals for AI data centres in their communities. Many were worried about the unknown impacts these centres might have and the lack of transparency from the companies proposing them.
“We can’t let American tech billionaires take over our communities. We need a moratorium on all new AI data centres in Ontario until the government has properly studied the effects on the environment, energy, health and jobs and put the proper safeguards in place,” said Schreiner.
Many residents also felt frustrated about this government’s lack of a climate plan in light of recent flooding in Ottawa.
“Here in Ottawa and in other communities across the province, floods have destroyed property and cost millions. But this government has slashed Conservation Authorities–our frontline defense against flooding–and refuses to even say the words ‘climate change,’” said Clancy.
“Greens will not stop fighting for real climate action. But it takes working together to protect our air, water and our communities from dangerous weather fueled by climate change. We need all hands on deck in this fight. Sign petitions, talk to your city council, write letters to your MPPs. It’s time to show that we’re watching and we’re taking our power back.”
