Clancy tours Woolwich farmland at risk

TORONTO — Aislinn Clancy released the following statement after touring a parcel of Woolwich farmland at risk of being paved over for industrial use.

“Woolwich has some of the best soil in Ontario. The farmland at stake here supports local farmers and drives the local economy. It’s time for the Ford government to step up and permanently protect farmland here and across the province.

Ontario loses 319 acres of farmland every day. We can’t afford to lose any more—once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.

Communities will not sit back while the Ford government threatens Ontario’s farmers, farmland, and the $52 billion agricultural economy that employs over 875,000 people. If this government wants to protect the future of farming in Ontario, they should pass Mike Schreiner and Bobbi Ann Brady’s Bill 21: Protect Our Food Act to permanently protect and enhance Ontario’s farmland.”
