Ford plowing ahead with decades-long Billy Bishop takeover

QUEEN'S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement responding to the Ford government pushing ahead with 25-year long Billy Bishop Airport expansion.

“Time and time again, Doug Ford puts corporate profits ahead of the people of Ontario.

After intense questioning at Tuesday’s committee hearings, government ministers and the Toronto Port Authority revealed that construction for the expansion is expected to plague Toronto’s downtown for 25 years, with no evidence that this will actually benefit Ontarians. 

As usual, the Ford government is ramming bills through the legislature without any foresight or evidence to back them up.

Doug Ford doesn’t care that this project will block housing construction and make life miserable in downtown Toronto with decades of disruptive construction and even worse gridlock.

Or that it will degrade sensitive waterfront ecosystems.

He doesn’t care how noise and air pollution will impact residents, nearby schools and wildlife. 

This Premier is more concerned with lining the pockets of the wealthy American bankers that own the terminal than making life better for everyday Ontarians.

Ontario Greens are calling on this government to put people before profits and cancel this destructive and anti-democratic airport expansion.”
