Climate, jobs: Ford not even faking it, AG report reveals
October 1, 2025
QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens Leader and MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement in response to the Auditor General’s 2025 Special Reports.
“The AG report confirms that the Ford government is prioritizing deep-pocketed insiders over everyday people. Ontarians are paying more to get less, while industry and well-connected insiders are doing better than ever – just look at the Skills Development Fund.
The Premier is not on track to meet his own watered-down climate pollution targets and his government has stopped bothering to even update the public.
Why? Because Ford is prioritizing protecting the profits of fossil fuel giants over protecting people from the escalating costs of the climate crisis.
I used to say that the Ford government’s climate plan was made to fail. Now, there’s no plan at all.
If you’re an oil and gas giant or a well-connected recipient of the Skills Development Fund, you’re making out like a bandit. For the rest of Ontarians, you’re out of luck.
Every day Ontarians aren’t sure that they’ll be able to find an affordable childcare spot, that their government gives a damn about low-cost climate solutions, or that the companies that build their homes are properly licensed.
Meanwhile, their government is using public funds to funnel money to friends and lobbyists. The Skills Development Fund, meant to prioritize training up Ontario workers, is being turned into a $2 billion slush fund to funnel money to the Premier’s connections.
Ontario is staring down its highest-ever deficit. It would be one thing if our public colleges were properly funded, we were on track to meet our climate targets or families could find affordable homes or childcare. Instead, this government is spending more than ever and the people who benefit are industry and insiders.”
