Marlene Spruyt nominated as Ontario Green candidate in Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston

December 15, 2021

The Green Party of Ontario is proud to announce that Marlene Spruyt has been nominated as its candidate for the Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston riding ahead of the 2022 provincial election.

KINGSTON — The Green Party of Ontario is proud to announce that Marlene Spruyt has been nominated as its candidate for the Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston riding ahead of the 2022 provincial election.

Spruyt previously served as the Medical Officer of Health for both the Timiskaming Health Unit and Algoma Health Unit. She is a former family physician and a lifelong environmentalist.

“I’m alarmed by the lack of climate action from the Ontario government,” Spruyt said. “And that’s why I’m running for the Ontario Greens.”

Spruyt believes that to maximize individual engagement and to shift away from fossil fuels, Ontario needs broader and stronger policy shifts at all levels of government and comprehensive supports for families and businesses as they transition to a net-zero economy.

“We need to help Ontarians join the green economy while minimizing the harmful effects of climate change. And Ontario Greens have the best plan to do that.”

“Ontario Greens are the party of science,” said Leader of the Ontario Greens Mike Schreiner said. “Whether it’s tackling the climate crisis or responding to COVID-19. And it brings me great pride to announce such a renowned scientist and medical leader as our newest candidate.”

Spruyt has previous public health experience in topics such as poverty reduction, health equity, food insecurity, clean water and active transportation — all crucial policy areas that provide a strong basis for supporting the vulnerable populations that are disproportionately impacted by climate change.
