Vaccine rollout fails essential workers

April 13, 2021

The vaccine rollout is inaccessible to those that need to be protected the most. Until we have safe workplaces, we will be unable to contain COVID-19.

QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement regarding the the vaccine rollout and the government’s announcement this afternoon:

“Ford continues to fail Ontario’s essential workers with his vaccine plan.

We need an accessible vaccine plan that targets high-risk essential workers at their workplace, including mobile clinics that go to the workplaces.

The government should bring mobile clinics to high-risk workplaces and legislate paid time off for workers to be vaccinated, as well as paid sick days.

We know the majority of COVID outbreaks and spread are happening in workplaces. And for months, I’ve been calling for a safe workplaces plan.

In Toronto alone, 68% of COVID outbreaks have occurred in workplaces like warehouses and food processing plants.

My message to the Premier is stop gaslighting Ontarians and claiming the vaccine booking process is ‘very simple’.

Days after the Premier finally announced targeted hot spot vaccinations, people still have no idea how to get a shot. There is mass confusion — that’s on the Premier, not the individuals.

The vaccine rollout is inaccessible to those that need to be protected the most. Until we have safe workplaces, we will be unable to contain the spread of COVID-19.”
