Ford’s dithering on paid sick days endangers us all
March 10, 2021
QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner made the following statement in response to the COVID outbreak at Brampton Transit and Amazon in Brampton:
“The fact that a COVID outbreak at an Amazon warehouse in Brampton is feared to have spread to Brampton Transit workers is a glaring example of why Ontario needs to legislate paid sick days for workers.
Brampton Transit has stopped transit services to the location of this warehouse because of the outbreak.
One can only assume it’s because workers who are sick are taking transit to work.
If there were guaranteed paid sick days, then these workers would not have to choose between their health and paying their bills.
The Premier’s decision to keep punting the responsibility to the federal government is a dereliction of his duty to protect Ontarians during a public health crisis.
The Ford government needs to stop making excuses and stand up for workers.”
