Ford’s disregard for science-based decisions causes trouble again
January 27, 2021
TORONTO — Mike Schreiner released the following statement regarding the allegations made by the Ford government against COVID-19 Science Advisory Table member, Dr. David Fisman:
“Once again, the Ford government’s handling of the pandemic is causing distraction instead of focusing on solutions.
Educators, parents and teacher unions have been ringing the alarm bells for the need to have clear benchmarks for safe school reopenings.
They have repeatedly pleaded with this government to have better ventilation so students don’t freeze during the winter months with open windows. They’ve pleaded for better PPE, for rapid tests, and for reduced class sizes.
And Doug Ford has failed to deliver.
It is no surprise that the science community is in conflict with the government’s choices once again.
The Premier’s tendency to disregard science in favour of politics is all too familiar. He did it with his attack on Conservation Authorities, and he is doing it with his pandemic response.
I call on Premier Ford to listen to the science when it comes to safe-guarding the health of Ontarians.”
