Aggressive action required to stem second wave
October 2, 2020
QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement after the province introduced a provincial mask mandate and new regional restrictions:
“I will always support aggressive action to stay ahead of this virus instead of playing catch-up.
The Premier should listen to health experts in Ontario’s COVID-19 hotspots and take steps now that will save lives in the long run and prevent another full lockdown.
I echo the sentiment that all Ontarians need to take the threat seriously and limit their close contact as much as possible to their own household.
With Ottawa’s chief medical officer saying the city’s health system is near collapse, we cannot hesitate to restrict high-risk activity and indoor gatherings.
Today’s limits on bars, restaurants and gyms are needed to contain the virus and avoid a full lockdown that would be devastating for so many small businesses.
The Premier must put public health first so that our economy can recover.”
