Ford must put safety ahead of bars
July 20, 2020
QUEEN’S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement about Stage 3 reopening in Ontario:
“The Premier is playing with fire if he puts indoor drinking ahead of public safety.
Places around the world have seen a resurgence of the virus when they take down their guard on public health measures.
People and businesses want to reopen, and the Premier must ensure strict public health measures are in place for indoor drinking and dining in order to avoid undoing months of work to flatten the curve.
If hotspots like Toronto are asking the Premier for stronger rules and regulations to prevent COVID-19 outbreaks, then he should oblige.
Public behaviour is shaped by the actions and leadership of our Premier.
Mr. Ford should support municipalities with strong public health measures so that Stage 3 does not throw open the door to a massive second wave and another economic shutdown.”
