Make the Super Rich Pay Their Fair Share.
In Doug Ford’s Ontario, everyday people can’t get ahead. They’re doing all the right things: working hard, paying their taxes, saving every spare dollar. And they’re still feeling left behind.
Meanwhile, the super rich are doing better than ever. Every hour, billionaires pocket more wealth than the average worker earns in an entire year. Doug Ford says the money isn’t there for healthcare, schools and affordable homes. But it’s sitting untaxed in trust funds, mansions and yachts.
Instead of asking the super rich to pay their fair share, the Ford government is cutting deals with them, because the people hoarding all the wealth are the same people who donate to him. Our government shouldn’t work for the rich and powerful. It should work for everyone else.
Mike Schreiner tabled a motion at Queen’s Park for a one-time tax of 5 per cent on wealth over $100 million and 10 per cent on wealth over $1 billion. It would raise more than $26 billion. We’re calling on the Ford government to:
- Support the Ontario Greens’ motion for a wealth tax on the super rich.
- Invest the money in the things everyday people need: healthcare, education and affordable housing.
