Reverse the OSAP Cuts – Protect Student Futures

Save OSAP – Stop the Student Debt Trap

The Problem: A Student Debt Trap

Doug Ford is locking Ontario students into decades of high-interest debt. While students are finishing their semesters, the government is flipping OSAP funding from grants to loans that come with interest.

Ontario already has the lowest per-capita funding for post-secondary education in Canada. Instead of fixing the system, Ford is forcing students to pay for government underfunding through massive personal debt—estimated to add over $7,200 in debt for the average student.

We have a better way forward. Ontario Greens have tabled a motion to:

  • Convert OSAP to 100% grants for low- and middle-income students so they can graduate debt-free.
  • Eliminate all interest on provincial student loans immediately.
  • Increase provincial funding for colleges and universities to finally meet the national average.

Education should be an equalizer, not a luxury for the wealthy few. Let’s level the playing field so everyone can afford to learn.
