Protect the Waterloo Moraine: Our Water Is Not for Sale
The Waterloo Region’s drinking water comes from the Waterloo Moraine, a critical underground aquifer system that sustains more than 600,000 residents today and must support one million by 2050. The Ford government is threatening it. By weakening environmental oversight and approving aggregate operations that extract up to nine million litres of groundwater a day, Doug Ford is gambling with the region’s most finite and irreplaceable resource.
Ontario Green MPP Aislinn Clancy has tabled a motion at Queen’s Park to permanently protect the Waterloo Moraine. We need your voice behind it.
- Legislate permanent protection for the Waterloo Moraine’s ecological and hydrological features
- Respect municipal authority by honouring local requests to pause high-volume private water-taking permits in vulnerable areas while long-term regional water strategy is updated.
- Prioritize gentle density within existing urban boundaries as the fastest, most affordable path to building homes without destroying the watershed our communities depend on.
