Across our province, people are being forced into impossible choices—like deciding whether to pay the landlord or the grocery store.

In the GTA: The average home price sits at roughly $1 million, while housing starts have plummeted
In Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, and Ottawa: families are being priced out of their communities because provincial policy ignores the real causes of skyrocketing rents.
Across the province: We are seeing a record-breaking surge in food bank use. Toronto alone recorded over 4.1 million visits in the last year—a staggering 340% increase since 2019.

Doug Ford has focused on helping land speculators while ignoring the deeply affordable and supportive housing we actually need.

Ontario Greens are fighting for a housing-first approach:

Build 250,000 deeply affordable homes: Permanent non-profit and co-op housing that matches the communities needs.
Bring back rent control: Ending the “wild west” of rent hikes so you can stay in the community you love.

For too many of us, the cost of keeping a roof over our heads has become the biggest barrier to living a decent life. The latest CMHC report confirms that your government’s approach isn’t working. While other regions are finding ways to build, Ontario’s housing starts are crashing to levels not seen in two decades. This isn’t just a statistic; it represents a generation of Ontarians being locked out of the dream of homeownership and safe, stable rental housing. When families are forced to spend the bulk of their income on rent or mortgages, there is nothing left for the essentials. Last year, Toronto food banks saw over four million visits—proof that when housing policy fails, our neighbours go hungry. Every food bank visit is a policy failure. I am calling on your government to lead with evidence and compassion by: 1. Funding 250,000 non-profit and co-op homes that are deeply affordable and permanent. 2. Reinstating rent control on all units to stop unfair spikes. 3. Investing in supportive housing with wrap-around mental health and addictions care. 4. Taxing property speculators who own multiple investment properties. 5. Legalizing “missing middle” housing like townhomes in all residential areas. Housing is a human right, not a luxury. I urge you to take immediate action to make Ontario affordable for everyone, not just the wealthy few.
