Tell Doug Ford: We need homes, not more excuses.
The latest housing data confirms what Ontarians are already feeling every day: the housing market is broken. While the entire country is struggling, Ontario is currently the “main drag” on national construction, with home starts stalling and affordability getting worse.
Across our province, people are being forced into impossible choices—like deciding whether to pay the landlord or the grocery store.
- In the GTA: The average home price sits at roughly $1 million, while housing starts have plummeted
- In Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, and Ottawa: families are being priced out of their communities because provincial policy ignores the real causes of skyrocketing rents.
- Across the province: We are seeing a record-breaking surge in food bank use. Toronto alone recorded over 4.1 million visits in the last year—a staggering 340% increase since 2019.
Doug Ford has focused on helping land speculators while ignoring the deeply affordable and supportive housing we actually need.
Ontario Greens are fighting for a housing-first approach:
- Build 250,000 deeply affordable homes: Permanent non-profit and co-op housing that matches the communities needs.
- Bring back rent control: Ending the “wild west” of rent hikes so you can stay in the community you love.
- Legalize “missing middle” housing: Building townhomes and multiplexes in the neighbourhoods people already live in.
- Tax speculators: Ensuring those treating our homes like a stock market pay their fair share.
The system is working for the rich, but it isn’t working for you. Add your name to demand a housing plan that puts people first.
