May Day: Putting People Over Corporate Profits

May Day: Putting People Over Corporate Profits

The rich are getting richer while young people are being locked out of the economy. With youth unemployment in Ontario at an all-time high, the Ford government has chosen to ignore the affordability crisis facing students and workers. Whether it’s allowing “renovictions” by corporate landlords or forcing students into decades of debt with OSAP cuts, the government is prioritizing well-connected insiders over your future.

Ontario Greens are fighting for a better way:

  • Eliminating Student Debt: We’ve tabled a motion to shrink student debt so young people can start their careers on solid ground. We are calling for 100% non-repayable grants for low- and middle-income students and zero interest on provincial loans.
  • Fairness for Gig Workers: The government needs to make life more affordable and fair for gig workers by mandating full employment rights—including minimum wage, sick leave, and other necessary employment standards.
  • Homes for People, Not Profits: We are pushing the Keeping People Housed Act to stop unfair rent spikes and illegal evictions. We need to build homes for people in existing neighbourhoods, not luxury sprawl for developers.
