Doug Ford is keeping you in the dark
Doug Ford is changing the rules of the game to make sure you never see the scoreboard. By passing Bill 97, his government is fundamentally dismantling Ontario’s transparency framework. By exempting the Premier’s Office and Cabinet from public oversight—and making those changes retroactive—he is ensuring that well-connected insiders stay protected while the public stays in the dark.
When a government exempts itself from scrutiny, it breaks the public trust. Our democracy relies on the principle that those in power remain accountable to the people they serve. Whether it’s doubling the wait time for information requests or shielding government business conducted on personal devices, these changes are designed to hide bad behavior.
We believe in honesty, accountability, and transparency. People deserve to know how decisions are being made and who truly benefits, especially when so many actions seem to favor the wealthy and well-connected. We must demand that public oversight is restored and that retroactive secrecy is ended.
Freedom of information is a cornerstone of a healthy democracy. It is a vital tool for journalists and the public to access the truth. We cannot allow this government to pull the curtains shut on our province.
