The Ford government has eroded renters’ rights, allowing “renovictions” to skyrocket while tenant protections disappear. When housing is treated as a way to make corporations rich instead of a way to keep people housed, our communities suffer. With 85,000 people now homeless in Ontario, we must make sure everyone has a safe and secure home:

Expand rent control to all buildings, including those built after 2018.
Stop price gouging between tenants so that a new renter pays a fair price based on what the last person paid.
Crack down on illegal evictions by requiring proof of permits before a landlord can claim they need you to move out for “repairs.”
Create a task force to investigate the growing use of above-guideline rent increases.

I am writing to demand that your government stop prioritizing corporate interests and start protecting Ontario renters. Homes should be for living in, yet your government’s policies have turned our housing market into a commodity for wealthy investors. With nearly 85,000 people in our province experiencing homelessness, it is clear that the current system is failing.
