Year after year, the Ford government underfunds the emergency firefighting fund leaving frontline firefighters underprepared and communities at risk. Already this fire season, thousands of people have been forced to evacuate their homes and thousands more face severe health risks from dangerous air quality.

The Ford government can no longer ignore the very real and dangerous impacts of the climate crisis. Wildland firefighters are working hard to get these fires under control and keep people safe. It’s time for this government to step up and do its part.

Instead, the Ford government continues to underfund emergency firefighting budgets and invest in fossil fuels that are making these unsafe weather events worse.

Ontario’s firefighters are being left without the support they need.

The Ontario Greens are calling for immediate action:

• Restore wildfire and emergency preparedness funding
• Invest in clean, renewable energy
• Reverse Bill 5 and strengthen environmental protections
• Invest in climate preparedness solutions that keep people safe

We can’t afford to wait. Ford’s reckless climate denial is putting lives at risk.
