For generations, 36 local Conservation Authorities have been the frontline experts we trust to manage water levels and protect local biodiversity. Now, the Ford government is forcing a consolidation into nine “mega-agencies” that prioritizes the interests of wealthy developers over the safety of your family and the health of our environment.

Preserve Local Knowledge: A distant “mega-agency” cannot replace the hyper-local expertise needed to manage the spring melt and protect the specific streams and wetlands in your backyard.
Protecting Spring Rebirth: Local conservation areas provide essential breeding grounds for Ontario wildlife; without local stewardship, these sensitive habitats are the first to be sacrificed for sprawl.
Community Safety Over Sprawl: Centralizing control makes it easier for the government to bypass environmental protections, leaving our homes more vulnerable to flooding during the thaw.

As we witness the return of spring across Ontario, I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the plan to consolidate 36 local Conservation Authorities into nine regional bodies. Spring is a critical time for our watersheds. For 80 years, local authorities have provided the site-specific expertise required to manage the spring thaw and protect our homes from flooding. Your plan to centralize this control into massive “super-agencies” threatens our safety and our environment by: - Weakening Flood Response: Effective water management depends on local knowledge. A centralized bureaucracy cannot provide the rapid, site-specific response required during a volatile spring melt. - Endangering Local Wildlife: Local authorities are the best stewards of the habitats that support Ontario’s wildlife during spring. We cannot afford to lose this dedicated local oversight. - Eliminating Local Voices: Decisions regarding the safety of our communities and the protection of our local nature should be made by people who live in those communities. I urge you to preserve local decision-making and ensure that Conservation Authorities remain empowered to protect our water, our wildlife, and our homes.
