Ford’s burning and burying his failures now

QUEEN'S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement responding to the government announcement that it plans to expand landfills and incineration facilities.

“Ford is burning and burying his destruction of Ontario’s blue box program. 

Greens have warned the Ford government for years that Ontario can’t rely on the US to manage our waste.

Now, tariffs have backed Ford into a corner and his solution is to force landfills onto communities and burn our garbage, creating toxic air pollution for everyone.

The Ford government could have avoided all of this by implementing the solutions Greens have been championing for years. Solutions like reducing waste in the first place, strengthening our recycling program and creating opportunities to grow the circular economy and the jobs it creates. 

Once again, the Ford government is forcing communities to pay the price for its failures.

Ontario Greens call on the Ford government to halt plans to force landfills and incineration facilities on to communities and develop a waste management strategy that actually supports sovereignty, sustainability and affordability.”
