Clancy calls on Ford government to fund public healthcare
August 5, 2026
QUEEN'S PARK — Aislinn Clancy released the following statement responding to OCHU/CUPE’s report Pushed Over the Brink: The Escalating Assault on Ontario’s Hospitals.
“It’s time for this government to put people before profits and start making real investments to care for Ontarians.
Healthcare workers are underpaid and experiencing increasing workplace violence. Patients are facing worse health outcomes, longer-than-ever wait times and ER closures in their communities. Hospitals are understaffed and staring down larger than ever deficits.
Our public healthcare system is crumbling and yet the Ford government continues to underfund public healthcare—putting people and workers at risk. Meanwhile, privatization is only increasing.
Instead of pouring tax dollars into privatizing our healthcare system to line the pockets of shareholders, this government should be supporting a system that cares for us and the people that make it work.
We join OCHU and CUPE in calling on the Ford government to stop privatization, fund healthcare at its real costs and invest an additional $5 billion into Ontario’s public healthcare system to clear surgical waitlists, end hallways healthcare and expand hospital capacity.”
