Clancy tables motion to protect Waterloo Moraine
June 2, 2026
QUEEN'S PARK — Aislinn Clancy has introduced a motion to protect Waterloo Region’s groundwater supply by implementing a plan to permanently protect the Waterloo Moraine.
“The Waterloo Region depends heavily on groundwater. We need to make sure that we protect it for communities, not corporations.
But right now, our water sources are under pressure as our region faces critical water capacity issues.
Despite this, the Ford government continues to plow ahead with reckless legislation that is making it easier for corporations to take the water communities rely on, and weakening protections for wetlands, water sources and recharge areas.
Passing this motion is an opportunity for this government to protect drinking water for hundreds of thousands of Ontarians in a region that is expected to grow to 1 million residents by 2050.
We must provide land use planning direction to provincial ministries, municipalities, landowners and other stakeholders on how to protect the moraine’s ecological and hydrological features.
It’s never been more important to prioritize water for people over profits so our region can grow and thrive, now and in the future.”
