Clancy responds to Ford: It’s time to take responsibility

May 22, 2026

KITCHENER — Aislinn Clancy released the following statement in response to the Premier’s comments on homeless encampments in today’s press conference:

“It’s time for the Premier to take responsibility for the homelessness crisis his government has created.

Since Doug Ford came into office, homelessness has surged more than 50 per cent. And without real action from this government, the number of people experiencing homelessness is expected to hit 300,000 by 2035.

Research from the Association of Municipalities of Ontario makes it clear: the root causes of homelessness are chronic underinvestment in deeply affordable housing, mental health and addictions care.

Instead of dodging accountability and punching down on vulnerable people, Doug Ford must step up and lead with evidence and compassion.

It’s time to listen to the experts and municipal leaders across the province calling for meaningful investments in affordable housing, mental health and addiction supports to ensure everyone has a safe and affordable place to live.”
