Schreiner calls for investment in small urban municipalities

April 30, 2026

PARRY SOUND — Speaking to delegates at the OSUM 2026 conference & AGM, Mike Schreiner called for the Ford government to invest in building caring communities.

“Times are tough for communities across the province.

People are facing a high cost of living, struggling to find work and worried about the future.

Strong local leaders are fighting hard to foster caring communities.

But they have been abandoned by a government more focussed on spending billions on luxury spas, island airports and tunnels in Toronto.

A government that refuses to invest in our systems of care and continues to undermine local decision-making and centralize power at Queen’s Park.

Greens want to build an Ontario where people come first. And where municipalities have the resources they need to support thriving, affordable communities.

Where every person can find an affordable place to call home, and a good job that can support them. Where education and social services are properly funded, and every person has access to primary healthcare, mental health services and a properly staffed hospital.

Where communities feel safe and supported by a government that protects the farms that feed us and the nature that protects us from unsafe weather.

Ontario Greens promise to keep fighting for a government that puts people before wealthy insiders and corporate profits.”
