Schreiner calls for investment in northern communities at NOMA

April 22, 2026

THUNDER BAY — Speaking to delegates at NOMA, Mike Schreiner called for the Ford government to invest in building caring, resilient communities in Ontario’s North.

“Communities in Northwestern Ontario are self-reliant, independent and resilient.

They’re the engine that powers the province—from forestry to mining, ecotourism to agrifood supply chains, manufacturing and energy generation.

But Northwestern Ontario has been abandoned by a government more focussed luxury spas, island airports and tunnels in Toronto.

These communities deserve a government that will invest in making Northwestern Ontario an affordable place to live where people can thrive.

Where every person can find an affordable and stable place to call home, and a good job that can support them. Where education and social services are properly funded, and every person has access to a family doctor and a properly staffed hospital.

Where communities feel safe and supported by a government that protects the people and places we love—developing resources in a way that creates prosperity for Northwestern communities and respects Indigenous rights and environmental protections.

Greens want to build an Ontario where people care for each other. We can’t do that with a government that refuses to invest in our systems of care and continues to undermine local decision making and centralize power at Queen’s Park.

Ontario Greens are ready to work for you and with you to empower local leaders and build caring, resilient communities where everyone has what they need to live a good life.”
