Ford to appoint PC puppets to regional councils

QUEEN'S PARK — Mike Schreiner released the following statement responding to the Ford announcement that it will appoint regional chairs and give them strong chair powers.

“This is yet another anti-democratic attack on local decision making by the Ford government.

They already tried this with strong mayor powers and just look at how that worked out: housing starts are still at historic lows and housing prices remain at historic highs. 

Doug Ford is going to use these powers to force urban boundary expansions onto municipalities so that wealthy, well-connected insiders can cash in billions while everyday Ontarians pay the price. 

It’s clear that the Premier is more interested in lining the pockets of land speculators than building homes that everyday people can afford.”
