Statement for Transgender Day of Visibility
March 31, 2026
QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens leader and MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement marking Transgender Day of Visibility.
“Today, on Transgender Day of Visibility, I celebrate the joy, lives and accomplishments of transgender and gender non-binary people across our province, country and the world.
Canadian pioneers like Gemma Hickey, whose activism has expanded the rights and improved the lives and dignity of LGBTQ2IA+ people across Canada.
And like Julie Lemieux and Uzoma Asagwara, who were some of the first openly transgender and gender non-binary elected representatives in Canadian politics, paving the way for future generations to stand proud in their identity and working to make their communities better.
I urge all Ontarians to join me today in celebrating the contributions of the transgender community to society.
Today and every day, let’s commit ourselves to opposing oppression and standing with the Trans community in the journey toward safety, justice and equality.”
