Let’s prioritize water for people, not corporate profit

March 23, 2026

QUEEN'S PARK — Ontario Greens deputy leader and MPP for Kitchener Center Aislinn Clancy released the following statement to mark World Water Day.

“Today, on World Water Day, I am reflecting on the immense responsibility we have as provincial leaders to protect our precious water resources for present and future generations.

Right now, in my community, we’re facing critical water capacity issues that are impacting residents, farmers and industry.

Now more than ever, we must take action to protect Ontario’s watersheds, basins and river systems.

However, the Ford government continues to recklessly weaken protections and pave over wetlands, forests and critical water recharge areas at an alarming rate.

By gutting conservation authorities and continually pushing their pro-sprawl agenda, this government is making it easier to sell off the water our communities rely on, while simultaneously undermining the natural infrastructure that helps ensure we have water in the future.

That’s why today, the Ontario Greens reiterate our commitment to hold the government to account for their abysmal track record on protecting our water resources.

As communities across the province face dangerous flood warnings and critical water shortages, Ontario must step up with strong environmental protections that keep water available for people and the places we love, not corporate profits.”
