Our classrooms are in crisis and Ford is giving out gift cards

QUEEN'S PARK — Aislinn Clancy released the following statement responding to the Ford government announcement of Classroom Supplies Cards for teachers.

“Ontario schools are falling apart. 

But instead of actually investing in our schools and supporting teachers and students, this government is slapping a bandaid on the problem.

The Ford government’s chronic underfunding has created unsafe, overcrowded and understaffed classrooms with inadequate supports for students with special education needs.

It’s mind-boggling that Doug Ford is dumping taxpayer dollars into buying airports and building islands while our schools are in crisis.

Ontario teachers, students and parents deserve a government that puts student well-being before massive mega projects and wealthy insiders. 

Ontario Greens are calling on the Ford government to get their priorities straight. It’s time to make real investments in public education to address the massive school repair backlog, increase support for Special Education and increase per student funding.”
