Ford government chipping away at local democracy

KITCHENER — Aislinn Clancy released the following statement responding to the government’s appointing supervisors to York Catholic and Peel District School Board.

“Despite strong local opposition, the Ford government is plowing ahead with their anti-democratic school board takeovers by stripping two more school boards of their elected trustees.

Now, a shocking eight school boards will be sidelined by a government minister from his office in Toronto.

Instead of actually investing in education, this government continues to dodge accountability and sideline local decision making.

It is long past time for the Ford government to stop starving teachers and students of resources, start making meaningful investments in public education and special education and restore local democracy in these communities.”
