Ford government is keeping parents and students in the dark
February 18, 2026
KITCHENER — Aislinn Clancy released the following statement in support of the WRDSB’s call for the province to review the decision to remove school board trustees.
“I’m glad to see education leaders boldly standing up to this government’s attempt to sideline local decision making, dodge accountability and distract from their chronic underfunding of our education system.
The Ford government’s anti-democratic takeover of seven school boards is resulting in a disturbing reduction of public accountability.
School board trustees are elected to support the unique needs of their communities.
Now, thousands of families will be left in the dark on critical decisions that directly affect their children’s education, and the future of public education in the province.
I join the Waterloo Region District School Board in calling on this government to engage in meaningful consultation with communities before eliminating this critical part of local democracy.
And, Ontario Greens continue to call on the Ford government to stop starving teachers and students of resources and start making meaningful investments in public education and special education.”
