Doug Ford is ignoring Ontarians on Wasaga Beach

GUELPH — Schreiner released the following statement in response to the government's decision to move forward with legislative amendments to the Provincial Parks Act.

“Doug Ford is ignoring the voices of thousands of Ontarians and plowing ahead with his move to remove 60 per cent of Wasaga Beach from provincial park protection.

This move puts vital ecological features at risk, including habitat for endangered piping plovers. It also sets a dangerous precedent for the rest of Ontario’s cherished provincial parks.

It’s clear that the Ford government sees public consultation as a box to check rather than an opportunity for meaningful engagement. The Auditor General told us as much in her annual audit of the Province’s implementation of its EBR responsibilities, and now we are seeing it in action once again.

Ontario Greens are calling on the Premier to listen to the thousands of people who are calling on him to keep his hands off Wasaga Beach. We need to protect Ontario from Doug Ford and the wealthy insiders who want to pave over the places we love.”
