National Day of Remembrance and Action Against Islamophobia

GUELPH — Mike Schreiner released the following statement to mark National Day of Remembrance of the Quebec City Mosque Attack and Action Against Islamophobia.

“Today, we commemorate the six lives that were tragically and senselessly lost on January 29, 2017 in an Islamophobic attack at a Quebec City mosque. 

We honour the lives of Ibrahima Barry, Mamadou Tanou Barry, Khaled Belkacemi, Abdelkrim Hassane, Azzedine Soufiane, and Aboubaker Thabti and we mourn with their families and communities.

As we pay remembrance, it’s crucial that we take urgent action against the rise of hate and discrimination against Muslims in Canada.

Greens reaffirm our commitment to combatting Islamophobia, hate and racism in all its forms.

We are committed to building an Ontario that embraces acceptance, justice and diversity.”
