Doug Ford is bottom of the class on housing

GUELPH — Ontario Greens leader and MPP for Guelph Mike Schreiner released the following statement reacting to the CMCH’s final 2025 housing starts data.

“A 13 per cent decline in housing starts, an 8 per cent increase in homelessness and almost a quarter of Ontarians living in unaffordable housing— it’s never been harder to make ends meet in Ontario and Doug Ford’s housing failures are at the root of it.

While the rest of Canada saw housing starts go up in 2025, Ontario continues to hit all-time lows.

This government was elected on the promise of 1.5 million homes and it is failing to deliver. Doug Ford continues to say no to building homes, no to protecting renters and no to investing in  non-profit co-op and supportive housing.

Ontarians don’t need more empty promises. We need action.Greens are calling on the Premier to take action now to make life easier and more affordable—and that starts with building more homes people can afford in the communities they love, close to the things they need.”
