Clancy: Ford turning a blind eye to worsening homelessness crisis

January 13, 2026

KITCHENER — Aislinn Clancy issued the following statement in response to AMO’s updated report on Ontario’s homelessness crisis.

“Under Doug Ford, homelessness in Ontario just keeps getting worse.

In 2024, AMO released a ground-breaking report revealing that homelessness had reached a tipping point.

And yet, despite repeated calls from experts, municipalities and people with lived experiences to create an evidence-based homelessness strategy, the Ford government has done nothing.

Over 85,000 people experienced homelessness in 2025. That’s an 8 per cent increase since the release of AMOs initial report—and a shocking 31 per cent increase in rural communities. This has resulted in the loss of lives, wellbeing and increased strain on our public services. It’s municipalities that are dealing with the fallout.

What will it take for this government to act?

I am calling on the Ford government to implement AMO’s recommendations to end chronic homelessness in Ontario by investing $11 billion over 10 years to boost the supply of supportive, transitional and community housing and increase prevention programs, and invest an additional $2 billion over eight years to reduce harm and system strain while longer-term housing supply is developed.”
