Clancy: Doug Ford has abandoned municipalities on homelessness
December 10, 2025
QUEEN'S PARK — Clancy issued the following statement in response to Ontario mayors calling on Ford to declare a state of emergency to deal with the homelessness crisIs.
“Ontario’s homelessness crisis is a policy failure by the Ford government, and now it’s forcing municipalities to deal with the fallout.
Over 81,000 people were left without housing last year. But instead of supporting municipalities or investing in affordable housing, Doug Ford is making things worse.
We have been calling on the Ford government to listen to experts, people with lived experiences and front line workers to create an evidence-based homelessness strategy.
Instead, it rammed Bill 60 through the legislature after experts warned that this will just force more people onto the streets.
I echo the Big City Mayors’ call for Doug Ford to declare homelessness a state of emergency in Ontario.
I am also calling on the Ford government to listen to experts and immediately make meaningful investments in affordable housing, mental health and addiction supports to ensure everyone has a safe and affordable place to live.”
