Ontario Greens call out Ford for making life more expensive

December 3, 2025

QUEEN'S PARK — Mike Schreiner and Aislinn Clancy were joined by stakeholders to call out the Ford government’s affordability failures and introduce motions.

“Life in Ontario has never been so expensive,” said Clancy. “And yet, this government is intent on making things worse.”

“From stripping renters’ protections to using taxpayer dollars to subsidize the electricity bills of millionaires and billionaires and hide a 29 per cent electricity price increase, Doug Ford has spent his shortened session driving up costs for everyday people.”

“Ontario is facing the worst affordability crisis in decades, and yet Premier Ford has spent this legislative session attacking poor and working people. He has prioritized lining the pockets of billionaires and millionaires instead of supporting Ontario’s most vulnerable,” said Yaroslava Montenegro of Federation Of Metro Tenants’ Associations.

“In Guelph alone, we’ve seen an almost 40 per cent increase in food bank usage this year. This is a stopgap measure to help people keep a roof over their head. We need real action before more people end up on the street,” said Carolyn McLeod, of Guelph Food Bank.

“The legislation that this government has introduced this session has undermined the security and safety of disabled residents in this province. It has locked us into a state of fear and uncertainty. It’s time to shift the direction Ontario is heading,” said Brad Evoy from Disability Justice Network

“The rising cost of living is a policy choice and policy failure by the Ford government,” said Schreiner.

“That’s why we have filed a suite of motions calling on the Ford government to take real action to make life affordable for Ontarians by building more affordable homes, protecting renters, strengthening rights for gig workers, increasing funding to the student nutrition program and raising ODSP and OW.

Ontario Greens will keep fighting for an Ontario where no one goes hungry and everyone has what they need to thrive.”
